Taken from her website, artist Meg Gilbert announces her new book project, a 40 week illustrated journal documenting her pregnancy:
“While pregnant in 2012, I got a kick out of the maternity websites that compared the weekly size (by weight and length) of the babe growing in my womb to a variety of produce. Some of these fruits and vegetables are not very comforting to imagine growing inside the delicate reproductive organs, yet alone giving birth to the week 40 choice: a spiky jack fruit! The “Fruit of the Womb” watercolour series attempts to illustrate in a playful manner this joyful time of expectation, and the weekly journal form creates a space for documenting feelings, cravings and dreams that may arise in this exciting time of growing life.
